Woman at the Well
"And upon this came His disciples, and marvelled that He talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest Thou with her? The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? Then they went out of the city, and came unto Him."
-John 4:27-30
While Jesus was was speaking with the Samaritan woman at the well and revealing to her that He was the Messiah and the Christ, His disciples marvelled (amazingly wondered) at why Jesus spoke with her. Apparently, up until this point, the disciples may have mistakenly believed that not all were worthy to hear the Gospel, or that according to the Jewish tradition, anyone speaking with a Samaritan woman would be "unclean".
Yet, after this woman is convinced that Jesus Christ is indeed the Messiah, we see that she left her waterpot and went to evangelize her city. She told the men of her city about her encounter with Jesus Christ, and they "came unto Him".
|
She left her waterpot and went to evangelize her city.
| |
In other words she dropped everything to follow Jesus Christ and to bring 'glad tidings' to others.
"Then answered Peter and said unto Him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed Thee; what shall we have therefore?"
-Matthew 19:27
"...as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"
-Romans 10:15
|
This woman who began as a sinner, returned as a powerful witness. | |
"And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on Him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did."
-John 4:39
Both men and women are called, gifted, and appointed by Jesus Christ to preach, teach, and evangelize, according to the measure of grace given by Christ, for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. Through Jesus Christ, regardless of gender, race, color, or creed, all are worthy to receive the gospel of peace, and all are worthy to receive God's gifts which are generously bestowed as the Lord so chooses. (Acts 2:17, Romans 16:1, 1 Corinthians 16:19, Ephesians 4:11, Ephesians 4:7, Galatians 3:28)
