Slow to Wrath

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. -James 1:19

An angry spirit leads to error and sin, and those who become easily angered may do so when they are adamant in their beliefs or opinions, and not willing to hear what others have to say. James instructs us, however, to be quick to hear -- we must be willing to listen to others, for the wrath of man is in direct conflict with the righteousness of God.

As Christians, we are are called upon to walk with Christ in humility and meekness, forgiving one another, and putting away all wrath and anger:

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. -Ephesians 4:31-31

Father,

Help us to be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath that we may put away all bitterness, wrath, and evil speaking. For I ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.
