No Other Doctrine

In his opening letter to Timothy, Paul instructs him to charge some that they teach no other doctrine:

"...that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do."

-1 Timothy 1:3-4

It is clear that Paul's intention was to protect and uphold the doctrine of Jesus Christ.

We know from reading the above verse that false teaching was an issue. Therefore, wives who were causing disturbances by rejecting the marital headship of their husbands or introducing heretical teachings, clearly called for Paul to address these issues and prohibit those who were disobedient.

As we have seen in our study of 1 Timothy 2:12, Paul was addressing a specific area of disorder and misconduct, and his instruction for women during worship is clearly for calm and non-disruptive behavior.

The proper conduct is that the unlearned and possibly unsaved* wives are to learn quietly, under the headship of their husbands.

* "...notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing..."

-1 Timothy 2:15
