Delight Thyself in the Lord

"Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass."

-Psalm 37:4-5

I think we give ourselves way too much credit. I know that I used to before I knew the Lord. I was of the mindset that "I" could handle whatever situations came my way. Better yet, most of the time really terrible things only happened to other people, never me. It seems like the only trinity out there being taught is about "Me, Myself and I." We're told to find our inner strength, pull ourselves up by the bootstraps. Usually when we're going through a painful time we look for ways to dull the pain which, a lot of times, is through drugs or alcohol or some other destructive behavior, and that is definitely not the answer.

If you're like me, you may find yourself unable to pull yourself up by the bootstraps. But it's okay. We weren't created to live life out on our own. Like the verse above says, delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Tell Him your heart's desire. Commit your way (turn everything over to Him), trust Him, and he will bring it to pass. Jesus is your lifelong companion. Through thick and thin, if you trust Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, He truly will give you the desires of your heart.
