Grace of God
Titus 2
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
14 Who gave Himself for us that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
|
Because Jesus Christ gave Himself for us to redeem [release, deliver] us from sin, (v. 14) we have a responsibility to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts (v. 12). We must live soberly, righteously, and godly in our daily lives as we await our Saviour's return (v. 13).
When we deny self, take up our cross daily and follow Jesus, we become more and more Christ-like in nature, integrity, and character. Various trials will come, but they are to purify us, prune us, and cause us to bring forth fruit:
|
"Every branch in Me that beareth not fruit He taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, He purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit." -John 15:2 |
The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin and convinces us of righteousness. When we quickly recognize and call sin what God calls sin in our lives, then turn away from those sins [repent], we can "live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world" as the Scripture so teaches. This promotes a healthy fellowship with the Father, through Jesus Christ.
"For God hath not called us unto uncleanness [moral impurity], but unto holiness [pure, holy, set apart to God]." -1 Thessalonians 4:7
"...and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ." -1 John 1:3 |
