From the Heart
The Bible teaches that every word we speak comes directly from within our hearts. If we constantly speak defeat or failure, bitterness, anger, rage, or criticism, it is proceeding forth from what's in our hearts.
|
Matthew 12:34
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. |
On the other hand, look what Jesus says about those who store good in their hearts. They bring forth good things:
|
Matthew 12:35
A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. |
If a Christian has developed the (bad) habit of speaking negatively or harshly to or about others, themselves, or their circumstances, he or she must carefully and closely examine every word that is spoken, and then ask the Lord to cleanse their heart:
|
Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. |
God is in the business of cleansing hearts. He desires for us to have clean, pure hearts and that we bear fruits of righteousness:
|
Matthew 12:33
Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. |
In Galatians, we are shown:
|
Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. |
Ask God to cleanse your heart so that when you speak or act, only goodness comes forth.
