Building An Ark - What Does it Mean?

Many people build their lives around their careers, accomplishments, and even their relationships... but when the storms of life hit, where can one turn for strength, abiding peace, and comfort? The answer is to turn to Jesus Christ.

What does it mean to build an ark?

Building an ark means building your life
on the solid rock of Jesus Christ.

God instructed Noah in his day to build an ark to protect himself and his family. Today, Jesus instructs us to build our lives on a solid foundation:

"Whosoever cometh to Me, and heareth My sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

"But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great."

-Luke 6:47-49

A Strong, Solid Foundation
Over the years I've read articles in Christian magazines entitled "Revival!" and during my travels on the Internet I've come across a page or two that read, "click here for prophetic visions". But in my Christian walk, I realized early on that the Kingdom of God is not about a lot of hype, nor is it about prophetic visions, or even church revivals.

It's about humble obedience to Christ.

It's about having and maintaining a strong, solid relationship with the living Saviour in good times, so that when the storms of life hit, we can stand firm.

We must build our foundation upon the rock of Jesus Christ, which means to follow Him, and surrender our lives, plans, and goals to Him. We must also call sin what God calls sin, repent of it, and it is then that we will experience true "revival".

Father,
In the name of Jesus Christ, we commit ourselves to walk in all Thy ways. You have sent forth Your Word into our hearts and we let it dwell richly with all wisdom. Help us to meditate on Your Word day and night, that we may diligently act upon it and build strong, solid foundations through Jesus Christ, in His name. Amen.

Begin Building

The New Living Translation gives us a very simple translation for Genesis 7:18:

"As the waters rose higher and higher above the ground, the boat floated safely on the surface."

Take one moment to ponder that verse.

The waters prevailed.

They rose higher and higher above the ground.

But the ark floated safely on the surface.

Jesus is our ark. No matter what storms or difficulties we may face, we can rest assured that we will float safely on the surface when we build our lives on the foundation of Jesus Christ and abide in Him. When the wind and the waves threaten to rob us of our peace, remember the words of Jesus, and put your focus back on Him:

"Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm." -Mark 4:39
